Fall 2023 Class
Which characteristics of your paintings come from style and which from skill? We'll take a deep dive into this question in this weekly class, developing our own unique styles, and likely some enhanced skills.
There are lots of characteristics of a painting that are about style: subject matter, medium, color scheme, key, level of abstraction and detail, type of paint application (for oil and acrylic, think brush versus knife), etc.
There is also a list of characteristics that are about skill: composition, drawing, values, mixing clean color, linear and aerial perspective, mark making with a brush or knife, etc.
In this class, we'll analyze our work and that of others with style and skill in mind. With the help of exercises, we'll develop (or tweak) our own unique styles and also improve any skills that will enhance that style.
