Welcome to my website!
I’m Bobbi Heath, an artist in love with the New England coast. Do you cherish the coast, as I do? Perhaps you vacation regularly on the Cape or in Maine, or have a family cottage on the shore? If so, we 're likely kindred spirits. I paint bold and colorful oil paintings of the New England coast so that you can enjoy your summer memories all year round.
I grew up in coastal Texas, with frequent visits to the beach, back when you could drive the car to your favorite spot on the sand. We stayed all day, hopping in and out of the water, sitting under an awning to dry off and eat our lunch from of the cooler. Inner tubes were a popular way to stay out in the water longer, replaced for my sister’s and my children with boogie boards and blow up animals. And we still go whenever I visit.
I’ve always loved to draw, and though I studied Chemistry in college and grad school, I always came back to drawing, and later to painting. My technology career in chip making and software development was regularly interrupted by painting workshops and trips with friends to paint.
Now I paint full-time. My painting journey was kicked into high gear when I discovered daily painting, the practice of regularly creating small paintings in a single sitting. These taught me a lot about the process. And painting is a process. Like anything else, you get better with practice. Once I could easily create a painting in a couple of hours, I was enticed outside by the landscape, and especially that of our New England coast. And so I became a plein air painter, one who paints outside from direct observation. It’s an enjoyable and satisfying way to paint.
And then there are the boats. My first boating experience was in a canoe, as a girl scout, and it was love at first sight. Later at Community Boating in Boston, I learned to sail. My husband and I have had 3 sailboats, and now run a lobster boat style cruiser. As a lover and owner of boats, I find those particularly fun to paint. We split our time between the Maine coast in summer and Massachusetts in the winter, where I’m driving distance from some amazing harbors. And there I find my inspiration.
I'm represented by Yarmouth Frame and Gallery in Yarmouth, ME, and The Drawing Room in New Bedford, MA. I've participated in numerous Plein Air Festivals, including Ocean Park (ME), Castine (ME), Long Beach Island (NJ), and Brandywine (PA).
