Imagine yourself with the skills and confidence to create a painting on your own.
To know how to start, and what to do at every step.
I know you can do it, because I've done it myself, and I've taught many others to do the same.

Weekly Zoom Painting Classes
Fall 2023 Wednesday Afternoon Class - Style Plus Skill - A Winning Combination
Which characteristics of your paintings come from style and which from skill? We'll take a deep dive into this question in this weekly class, developing our own unique styles, and likely some enhanced skills.
There are lots of characteristics of a painting that are about style: subject matter, medium, color scheme, key, level of abstraction and detail, type of paint application (for oil and acrylic, think brush versus knife), etc. There is also a list of characteristics that are about skill: composition, drawing, values, mixing clean color, linear and aerial perspective, mark making with a brush or knife, etc. In this class we'll analyze our own work and that of others with this in mind. With the help of exercises, we'll develop (or tweak) our own unique styles and also improve any skills that will enhance that style. |
Focus: Develop our own styles based on what we love to create, enhancing any needed skills When: Wednesday afternoons: Oct. 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8, 15 Time: 12:00-3:00 EST - Be ready to paint. Setup and cleanup times are before and after the class. Mediums: oil, acrylic, gouache Where: Zoom - A computer or tablet and internet connection are required. You will need to be able to show your work and your face to the group. Class Size Limit: 6 students |
Plein Air Painting Workshops
Plein Air Painting in Maine - Summer 2024
Have you been wondering what it's like to paint outside? Discover a love for plein air painting with me on the beautiful coast of Maine. The plein air tradition, popularized by the impressionists in France, is a wonderful way to embrace nature and enjoy your creative side out of doors. We'll review basic fundamentals - value, composition, and color; learn how to paint within Mother Nature's time constraints; and pick up tricks of the trade for painting out of doors. This workshop is ideal for those who have not painted outside previously.
My goal in teaching is one-on-one instruction that you can take home and use on your own work. Mediums include oils and acrylics. This workshop is not yet scheduled. Sign up for my email list at the bottom of this page and I'll let you know the details. |
Upcoming workshops will be announced first to those on my email list and then posted here. You may sign up for my list at the bottom of this page.
I love to travel and can teach a workshop (plein air or studio painting) for your group. Please let me know if you'd like more information on the Contact page in the menu.
Student Comments From Bobbi's Workshops
"Bobbi is very patient and criticizes constructively." "Her demonstrations are effective and she explains concepts in a variety of ways so that everyone understands them." "Bobbi boils things down into simple exercises which allow me to learn first hand what I've read about in books that passed me by." "Bobbi is very organized in how she presents things, which is helpful with so many elements to consider when approaching a painting. This helps create order out of chaos." "The course of instruction was well thought out and we could build on what we learned the day before." |
